Twitter Change

When I started this blog I also started a Twitter account to go long with it.  I wanted one in the same name.  Big mistake! I have my original account and I wasn't sure at the time I wanted to mix my organic world.  I think I might I have forgotten I have five kids and a hubby. I can't keep up with 2 accounts.  So I'm sticking with my original account rw_journey.  Click here if you would like to follow me.  You can leave me a comment on Twitter or here. I will follow back!

Plantar Fasciitis- Ouch

After a week of celebration and being on my feet non-stop. I've been on a break for the past three days of not being so much on my feet. I have plantar fasciitis and I was just in pure pain by last Sunday. I'm back to working on eating clean.  All of the celebration eating didn't feel good after awhile. I was watching the show The Doctors. They showed a exercise that is suppose to be effective and you can do it for a few minutes each day. Here is the link.  I was thinking about buying the resistance band. So with   weather permitting I'm back to walking for exercise purpose (not running errands) by Friday! Go me!!

Do you have a favorite exercise tool?

Busy Busy

I'm still walking and I bought two new sneakers to help me on this journey.  I've added cardio but so far  it's only been once or twice a week.  I have so many workout dvds but the one I like right now is Hip Hop Abs from Shaun T. It's a fun dance work out and it's not really difficult. I feel that by the end of summer I'm going to be closer to feeling great from the inside out. I'm thinking about adding walking up stairs as another cardio option. The only thing I wish would improve is my energy level.  I'm going to need it.  I have two birthdays, one prom and graduation all in the same week!!

What's your "pick me up" snack you like to enjoy?

Sugar Ban

In NYC Mayor Bloomberg wanted to pass a soda ban.   Pretty much you wouldn't be able to buy 32oz sugary drink. The law didn't work out.  The talk of the sugar ban brings up the fact that, “60% of adults in New York State are either overweight or obese,” and in the, “U.S. children and adolescents 2 to 19 years of age has tripled over the past two decades.” (New York State Department of Health) The hope is that it will reduce illness and death related to obesity and the expense that goes with it.   Since that  didn't work out, there is now commercials on television on what it means to drink sugar.  I personally think it's more effective than telling someone no you can't have it. I'll let you be the judge.

What do you think?

Mini Heat Wave

OMGoodness this mini heat wave is just awful. I only trained one day this week. I did do one 30 min cardio. I have to say my knees feel a bit stronger, I can only imagine how good I'm going to feel by August!! I realize now with summer around the corner.  I'm going to have to leave my walking (for exercise) either very early in the morning or late in the evening just when the sun is going down.  Dedication is about making it work no matter what. So I just have to do what I have to do.  Today's exercise is running after a three year old in the park. Another reason to get in shape cause toddler twins energy is much higher than mine. :)  Hopefully I can keep up with Twin A today.

Found It

For quite awhile I have been looking for a coconut juice that I could enjoy. Coconut juice is a healthy drink.  It's good for potassium, anti-aging and dehydration.  I don't like it when it has pulp.  I've tried different brands even one that had espresso in the coconut juice.  OMGosh was that awful. Finally I found one called  Coco Libre. It's labeled as a pure organic coconut water.  I found it in my local grocery store in the vegan/juice section. It has 60 calorie, 120 mg of sodium, 680mg of potassium and no fat grams.  My local grocery store had it for $1.99 for 11 fl. oz.  Here's a link to their site http://cocolibreorganic.com/. I took a picture of the bottle I bought, but for some reason it's not showing up.  I'll try again later to post the picture.  If you follow me on instagram I did post the picture last week.

Do you have a favorite coconut juice brand?

Daniel Fast

Yesterday I went for my first day of training this week.  I should have gone again this morning before the rain started, but I was lazy. It looks like I will have to train on Saturday and Sunday.  I've decided to the Daniel Fast for 10 days. I'm doing it for spiritual clarity, and to overall feel better. If you don't know what the Daniel Fast is. The meal plan is mostly veggies and fruits. Plus you take the time to deepen your faith. You can find out more details about it here. Next week I plan to add one or two days of cardio on the days I don't train. Mostly likely it will  be one day for next week and then the following week two days. Slow and steady is my plan when it comes to exercise.  I finally found a coconut juice I like. I'll share it tomorrow. I hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Too Big To Fail

I'm doing a personal writing challenge on Pacifiers, Pumps & The World.  I felt that today's challenge really speaks to how much I have progress in being my organic self.  So I decided to share it here also. Today writing challenge comes from The Daily Post.  The question is:

Tell us about something you would attempt if you were guaranteed not to fail (and tell us why you haven’t tried it yet).

I feel like this could be a number of things. I want to learn to ride a bike, but I'm worry at my age if I fail and fall. The injuries and recovery won't be pretty.  Honestly if I had to answer this question a couple of years ago. The list would be long but my attitude is different now.   I know there are a lot of things that I'm going to attempt and may not be successful the first time around.  It's part of life.  I might go into it cautiously, but it's not going to stop me from not trying it. Not doing something because you don't have a guarantee to not fail is a fail in itself.  So yes I will attempt to learn how to ride a bike. I will make sure I'm padded as much as possible.  It was such a great experience seeing my daughter learn to ride a bike. As much as I'm nervous about it. It won't stop me from giving me a chance.

Out of Breath

I loved day two of training.  Oh boy I can feel how out of shape I'm in. The good thing is that I know if I stick with it. In a few weeks I can push  myself even more. I enjoyed the quiet time. Quiet time at home doesn't exist with 3 year old twins. It really reminded me of much I miss running. It was a good to feel my legs aching by the time I got home. Tomorrow will be the final day for week one.  I'm taking it one training day at a time.

Training Day

Yesterday was my first day training.  One thing I need to get right away is a new running sneakers. The sneaker I have not the right one. It felt good to start.  Although I had to keep it a brisk walk for the whole time instead of the 2 min. jog. My ankle is still giving me trouble, but that's okay. I'm not going to use that as an excuse. Plus, I want to buy an insert for my sneakers (and shoes) for more support.  Tomorrow is day two. Its the same:

5 min brisk walk
2 min jog
5 min brisk walk

Couch to 5k

This is the program I mention I had used way back when. I've decided to use it again to get ready for my walk in August. This is what I'm going to be following:

You can check out www.coolrunning.com for more information. They have other running plans if your past the couch to running 5k stage. Plus a lot of useful information for runners. I'm going to work on my music to sync it with the program and start it on Monday (Rain or Shine).

Walk-A-Thon

I finally stop being a chicken and sign up for a 1.7 miles walk in August.  A longgggggggg time ago I use to run 5k's. I loved it and for whatever reason I stop. I'm far from fit to do a 5k, but I thought this walk would be a great way to wet my toes again. Plus it gives me time to prepare for it.  The course is suppose to have hills.  I'm going to use Couch to 5K program to help me out.  I had used the program before and found it very easy in helping me to get use to running. I'm nervous but  I'm looking forward to the training and the actual walk.

Ice Tea Love

Finally I have some down time to enjoy blogging.  I usually get into a nice rhythm blogging and than life happens. I have decided to do a juice fast. Most likely just for a week.

I'm so happy that I can say officially that water is my best friend! I start my day drinking water and I end my day drinking water. I  drink soda once every couple of months(maybe). I do drink a lot of ice tea. Summertime is almost here, so I'm going to try different healthier ice tea. I'm not sure if the Lipton Green Tea is healthy because of the sugar in it. I don't add extra sugar too it.  I would love to hear if anyone has a healthy summer drink.

Restarting

I don't mean restarting my blog but myself. I have been thinking about fasting. I have read it's a good way to get rid of toxins and reset your body and mind. The three I'm deciding between is:

  1. Daniel Fast
  2. Juice Fast
  3. Water Fast
I have tried the first two but never been truly strong enough to try a water fast. Daniel Fast is the easiest because I can still eat with the family. Plus the fact being on the Daniel Fast I fell in love with vegan chili. I overall felt much better after a few days.

Is there a fast you have tried? Did you like the results?

Sun is Out

I'm so happy that the sun is out and shining today. It's definitely a park day for the twins.  Thank you 77 degrees!! I can't think of a better way to being healthy than running around after twins on a beautiful day.

No Matter What

It's Thursday already, but I know I won't be back to blogging until next week.  We had a death in the family this week. I look forward to getting back on track with being my organic self, but for right now I need to make sure everyone is taking care of.

If you're a new follower please leave your link. I will follow back.

Remember no matter what happens in life. You have to find something to smile about.
What makes you smile?

Dash of What?

I'm embarrass to  admit but I use to love love and I do mean love salt.  I couldn't remember a time when I wouldn't cover my food with salt and not just a sprinkle. We all know that too much salt is unhealthy. I have tried and fail many of times to control how much salt I use in my cooking and on my plate.  It was only after I started using Mrs. Dash salt free seasoning blend that I was able to break away from the salt cravings.  I still use salt when I cook but only a sprinkle. If I'm making something just for me I won't use salt at all.  Just the Mrs. Dash seasoning.  I really don't miss it. It doesn't seem the family notices that I'm using less salt in the food. I will admit that sometimes the craving for salt comes  around but I'm able too deal with it better.

Is salt the number one seasoning in your home? If not what do you use?

Wednesday Snack

I love this! It's roasted seaweed. I would have never imagine that I would enjoy this, but I do.  So does my older kids. Hubby won't give it a try, but that's okay. After trying it from the regular store for 99 cents.  I bought a box of it at Costco. I think it was either $7.99 or $9.99. Either way it's cheaper for me to buy it in bulk than from the regular grocery store. The only thing is doesn't last too long at home with everyone (minus hubby) grabbing one. Have you ever tried it?

Hello!

Yea my first post! This blog is about my journey in being organic.  Sometimes it's easy and sometimes it's difficult breaking bad habits.  I have a long way to go but I'm proud of how far I've come. I believe it's easier when it's not force but sometimes I need a push in the right direction.  So welcome to my little world as I work on being the best that I can be for me.
